Background | CHIKV (Chikungunya virus) is a mosquito-borne RNA virus belonging to the Togaviridae family. The genome is about 11.8 kb and encodes structural proteins (C, E3, E2, 12K/6K, E1) and non-structural proteins (nsP1–nsP4), involved in replication, transcription, entry, and assembly. Variations in the genome, especially in the surface glycoproteins E1 and E2, drive differences in transmission adaptability, antigenicity, and neutralization, which are critical for surveillance and control. Neutralizing antibodies (nAbs) act by binding epitopes on E1/E2 to block viral entry into host cells or disrupt membrane fusion, and can enhance clearance via Fc-mediated effector functions. |
